Aeropostale Real Teens Contest

Aeropostale is sponsoring the Real Teens 2010 contest in an effort to find new faces for their Fall advertising campaign. And it's not a just beauty contest. They want teens between the ages of 13 and 19 to write in and tell them what it means to be a teen in the modern world. The 87 finalists will be chosen by the votes of their peers, and from that list the 8 winners will chosen by a panel of judges from the fashion world.

Not only will the winners get a chance to appear in a nationwide advertising campaign, they will each get a $5,000 college scholarship. Sign up and voting will end on the 5 April.

16 and Pregnant Chelsea

Sadly, we have gotten used to the fathers on 16 and Pregnant being selfish jerks, but I have to say that Adam is actually abusive. Sure it's not physical abuse but it is still abuse. The things he says to Chelsea are his way of controlling her. He called his daughter a mistake and said he wanted to sign away his rights to her. Leaving him may not be easy for Chelsea, but that is what she needs to do. She doesn't want her baby girl growing up to think that is how she should be treated. Chelsea knows what a man should be like, her dad is a stand up guy. And she should want that for her daughter.

Prom season is almost upon us. Girls everywhere are starting to think about what they want to look like on that fairytale night. Well, if you're a bit of a rocker chick Etsy seller, Ouma may be the designer for you. The dresses are kind of traditional, but still fun. And there are some affordable choices too. Birthday Time

Sunday was my oldest son's birthday. It is so hard to believe that I am the mother of a 17year-old. Unlike Christmas, he had some idea what he wanted for gifts. He asked for a watch (pretty normal) and tarot cards (WTF?).

I chose to give him the Manga University's Manga Tarot (Cards Plus Guidebook) because my kids love all things Japanese. The cards are rather pink, but he probably will lose interest in them in a few weeks. $15.56

He wanted a sporty watch so I chose the Puma Dumiao. The sales associate at Macy's gave me the wrong directions for setting the watch. This is not a watch that you can set without the directions, so I had to drive all the way back out to the local shopping mall. I was not happy. But he loves the watch and hasn't taken it off. There are no pictures from the little party that I threw for him because he hates having his picture taken. And I decided to give in to his wishes because he is about to start his senior year and I plan on taking a million pictures. I'm letting him enjoy a few camera free moments.

D&G Silk Bustier Dress

I know that it is much too early to be thinking about prom dresses, but if I had a daughter this would be the dress I would buy for her. When I think of prom this is the dress I imagine. And prom dresses are expensive so sometimes they need to saved up for.

MTV Teen Moms

MTV will be bringing back four of the mothers from their hit show, 16 and Pregnant. And trust me, the first episode shows how unglamorous it is to be a teen mother. We get to watch Farrah, Maci, Amber, and Catelynn juggle taking care of their babies with trying to build lives that hover somewhere between being a teenager and adulthood. The show is good enough that my 91year old grandmother watched and enjoyed it.



Teen Mom premieres on Tuesday, December 8 at 10:00pm ET/PT and will have eight one-hour episodes. And check here on Monday, because I will be interviewing Farrah. Farrah is my favorite, because she reminds me of myself almost two decades ago.

Spoiler: Catelynn and Tyler had unprotected sex after giving up their daughter for adoption!!! I was shocked. I assumed that they would be the one pair that wouldn't make that mistake again. I just discovered a really cute line of English acrylic jewelry. Tatty Devine creates fun and flirty collection of bracelets, pendants, necklaces, and rings. I really recommend the name necklaces if you want a nameplate necklace. The acrylic makes it look totally new as opposed to the usual gold or silver.

Talk About Spoiled

I thought my 16year-old was spoiled because he has a larger tv in his room than I have (a hand me down from great-grandma), but now I see that he has nothing on this brat. A mother had a 98inch television flush mounted into her teen-age son's ceiling. Patti Deni says that her son spends a lot of time making and watching his own videos. And since most ceilings aren't made to hold to 300lb televisions, they had to build a new reinforced ceiling before they installed the screen, video projector, and projection mirrors.

You know the kid is just watching porn on this thing. And can you actually watch the tv anywhere in the room besides the bed (If you can it must be uncomfortable, imagine the crook in the neck.). I wonder how much weight he has gained since the television was installed.

16 & Pregnant: Life After Labor

I recieved the following reminder from MTV's public relations:

The finale special, hosted by Dr. Drew Pinsky, will be an issue-driven forum on teen pregnancy. All six of the teen mothers profiled on season one of the series will participate in this event. Dr. Drew will discuss each girl's episode, specific issues and challenges and update us on what's going on in their lives now. This open discussion will provide a platform to address the controversial topics that were shown in season one: birth control, adoption, abortion, marriage, religion, gossip, finances, high school graduation and employment. During the show, Dr. Drew will field questions by members of the live studio audience, as well as select emails from viewers.

The special will air tonight at 10pm.



Maci is the one that I predict is no longer with her boyfriend. Even Catelynn, who gave her baby up for adoption, said that she felt sorry for Maci. And I am bummed I missed the chance to interview Catelynn (Busy hanging out with my kids, so I didn't read the email until after the show aired.) 16 & Pregnant Getting More Realistic

MTV's 16&Pregnant is getting more realistic. The first two episodes seemed to glorify teen pregnancy a wee bit too much. Most girls don't have boyfriends that can afford to rent them their own apartments. For a lot of girls it is an uphill struggle. Can't wait to see the update special to see what has happened to the girls since they were on the show.
